Area Description
One mile south of Kailua-Kona on Alii Drive, Alii Villas is a beautiful oceanfront complex with tropical landscaping, a large freshwater pool, and a patio area perfect for barbecuing or sunbathing. Black-and-white spinner dolphins and green sea turtles are frequent visitors to the bay just north of the complex, and bright reef fish school in the little coves and beaches nearby.
A short, pretty drive south leads to the best surfing, snorkeling, and diving areas in the Hawaiian islands; a trip north through 19th century lava flows takes you to dozens of peaceful white-sand beaches lined with palm and kiawe trees. Inland—a longer drive, but well worth the trip—is Kilauea, the Big Island’s active volcano, and the weird extraterrestrial landscape of Volcanoes National Park. To see the whole beautiful island and travel easily from one great beach to another, we recommend you rent a car at the airport.
